Reeling in the Big One: 2025 CCA Texas STAR Tournament Kicks Off with Stingaree Marina as Bolivar Peninsula’s Premier Weigh Station
The 2025 CCA Texas STAR (State of Texas Angler’s Rodeo) Tournament is set to cast off on Saturday, May 24, and will run through Labor Day, Monday, September 1. This annual event, organized by the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Texas, spans the entire Texas Gulf Coast and offers current CCA Texas members the chance to win a share of over $2,000,000 in prizes, including boats, trucks, UTVs, and scholarships .
Anglers participating in the tournament can compete in various divisions, such as the Red Tag and Blue Tag divisions, where catching a tagged redfish can lead to substantial prizes. For instance, the first five red-tagged redfish caught, with the tag clipped, fish released, and tag turned in at an official CCA Texas STAR Weigh Station, will take home a 2025 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew Cab connected to a 23′ Haynie Amigo with a Mercury 150HP L Pro XS Optimax and Coastline Trailer package.
For anglers on the Bolivar Peninsula, the Stingaree Marina in Crystal Beach stands as the sole official weigh station in the area. Located at 1297 N. Stingaree Rd, the marina offers concrete boat ramps, gas, ice, beer, bait, and other amenities to support fishing activities . After a day on the water, participants can unwind at the adjacent Stingaree Restaurant, known for its fresh seafood and stunning views of East Galveston Bay .
To participate in the tournament, anglers must be current CCA Texas members and registered in the tournament. Registration fees are $70 for non or inactive CCA members aged 18 and above, which includes one year of standard CCA membership and the current year's STAR Tournament entry. For life and current CCA members, the fee is $30, and for youth ages 6–17, it's $10, which includes one year of CCA Youth Membership
